  2.    The game of Battleship is a popular simulation of a simple naval battle.
  3. Each player hides 5 ships in a 10 by 10 grid.  They can be placed anywhere
  4. in the grid, horizontally and vertically, as long as there is no overlap.

  6.    Once the ships have been hidden, players take turns taking shots at the
  7. opponent's grid.  The first player to sink all their opponents ships wins.
  8. Each hit scores one point, sinking a ship scores a point, and winning a
  9. round has a bonus of 3 points for a total of 25 points.

  11.    This version of the game can be played against the computer or another
  12. human player.  When playing against the computer, a skill level from 0 to 9
  13. can be selected.  At skill level 0, the computer's shots are completely
  14. random with no recognition of hits made.  At skill level 9, the computer
  15. uses it's best strategy short of cheating.  At any level, performance will
  16. still vary due to chance.

  18.    You may position the cursor using either the numeric pad or the cursor
  19. arrow keys.  The '5' key is used to select a position for a shot or to
  20. place a ship horizontally.  The '0' key is used select or to place a ship
  21. a ship vertically.  At any time while placing ships or shooting, the ESC
  22. key can be used to abort the game.

  24.    The computer will beep when an invalid move is attempted.  There are
  25. also sound effects for shooting, hitting, and sinking a ship.  The Delete
  26. key may be used to toggle the sound effects off and on.
